New Ports / Re: Echo R1 - new STM32-based open hardware player

One idea for the case (maybe you've already thought of this): Might be cool to have the battery model number engraved on the battery door so in 5 years when it wears out you don't need to go "okay what was the battery model again???"

Iriver - Installation/Removal/Flashing / iHP 120 on Rockbox 4.0 / how to permanently get flash and ROLO right
« Last post by JoeMS2025 on Today at 12:05:16 PM »Hi all,
just got word from Hackaday that Rockbox 4.0 is out! A good reason to fire up the good old iRiver iHP-120 and see if I can get it back working with the latest software.
So I did and mostly it works, but I'm running into the same issue over and over again, same as in all these years before. It seems I can't get the latest firmware to go somewhere permanent. The installation with Rockbox-Utility worked fine, eventually giving me the instructions to restart the original firmware to flash the latest firmware. Unfortunately, the original firmware is no longer present, and the "original" firmware can only be one of the Rockbox firmwares already present on the device. While it is possible to use the latest rockbox.iriver file from the .rockbox root directory on the device to start Rockbox 4.0, I cannot get it flashed to the EEPROM. There just doesn't seem to be a way.
The older releases gave me a lot of headache, such as not letting me record anything because it claims it is out of disk space when more than half of the 64GB are free. Or giving warnings like "dir buffer full". I was hoping to get these resolved with later versions.
The picture attached shows the boot menu giving me three options:
It seems odd that the 2013 release number is greater than the one from the 2023 release but meh, that does not need to be an actuial issue. And I can't remember what I did in 2023 to successfully flash the image of that time into ROM.
In any of the RAM or ROM modes, I can go to Files -> .rockbox -> rockbox.iriver (and push the NAVI button on this file) to launch ROLO / Rockbox 4.0. However, I would like to go to Rockbox 4.0 immediately at powerup, so the best solution would be to skip the boot menu entirely and run 4.0 from flash.
I have spent hours trying to find a solution but haven't gotten any wiser. So it's time now to ask for assistance here.
Thank you so much!
Happy Easter!
Cheers,
Joe

- Boot from disk -> fails because an SD card is there in place of the original HDD, and I no longer have the HDD. Once in this mode, the device can only be recovered with the reset button as it is not possible to operate or even switch it off
- Boot RAM image -> starts Rockbox r18607 from 2023-09-08
- Boot ROM image -> starts Rockbox r19757 from 2013-01-09

I guess you could punch a hole or two in the sides of the case and then fit a lanyard above/below the PCB but you'd have to open the case to tie/untie it.
Next time I reroute the board I'll keep your idea in mind.

Worst case you should always be able to reboot into disk mode.

Hardware / Re: Hifiman HM-801: Newer builds became unstable. Can I help?
« Last post by HungryDaze on Today at 08:25:35 AM »Correct; Rockbox's internal audio path is 16-bit only, and there are no particular plans to change that. Heck, there's barely even so much as a sketch as to what the new internal audio APIs would need to look like. It's a pity, really. I like the sound of Rockbox more than that of the stock firmware. HiFiMan definitely cooked something up there soundwise. It would be great to realize the device's full potential.

Audio Playback, Database and Playlists / Re: Some songs play a small section from the middle right at the end
« Last post by philden on Today at 01:13:12 AM »A year or two ago I experienced this same problem with an iFlashed iPod. I seem to recall that the tracks would display the wrong duration, and somehow repeat to fill the new length. I can't remember the solution, it might be a corrupted database. I'd make sure you're using a recent version of Rockbox, then manually delete all of the database files via your computer, before building the new database.

Hardware / iPod Nano 1: Mountpoint does not exist
« Last post by FerociousRB on April 19, 2025, 10:28:28 PM »Hello all,
Today I installed RB4 on my iPod Nano 1st gen and working great. Was playing around with themes and remove the ones I didn't use. Also removed some games like Quake, Doom, Wolf3D. Powered down and try to power on but nothing on the screen. It's plugged in to my PC. I'm assuming it booted up. I start RB installer (win) and getting Mountpoint does not exist. Windows disk manager doesn't see it. Seems like it's bricked... :'(
Any suggestions? Thx in advance.

Audio Playback, Database and Playlists / Re: Some songs play a small section from the middle right at the end
« Last post by speachy on April 19, 2025, 05:32:45 PM »I've been having this strange issue where some specific songs play a small section from somewhere else in the song right at the end. It only happens on some songs but on those songs it happens every time. The audio files themselves seem to have no issues, any playing them on both my computer and the stock firmware results in no issues at all. This only seems to happen when playing though Rockbox. Has anyone else experienced this before? For reference, I'm running an iPod Video with an iFlash Solo mod for storage.
If it happens only with specific files, to do anything about this, at minimum we will need file specifics (eg type, bitrate, etc etc). or better yet a copy of the actual file attached to a proper bug report.
