Title: Sansa Clip + does not show 64GB microSD card.
Post by: FrosoStylianou on December 20, 2020, 06:49:10 AM
Hello, all!

As the title says, I am having trouble with loading my microSD card to the Sansa Clip +. It's originally 4GB and I want to expand it to 64GB with the use of: Kingston Canvas Select Plus, MicroSDXC. I installed Rockbox on the SC+, however unfortunately it will just not show anything up when I insert the SD card. I do see an icon flashing on the top-right part of the screen once or twice but then it goes away. The card's also already been formatted to FAT32. I am using a Macbook Pro for this, and when I connect the SC+ with the card, it shows them as 2 separate files on my desktop. Is there anything I can do? I'd really like to expand the memory of the player so I can hold all of my favourite music on there. I've already reached the max!  :(

Hi... I might want to locate a conclusive answer on what sort of memory cards it employments. I see individuals who state they use SDHC cards on it (of which I can discover 128GB adaptations) and some who state they can just utilize microSD (which I can just discover up to 64GB).

My essential concern is limit, and I surmise I can transcode my Apple Lossless to FLAC on the off chance that I need to.

SDHC cards are SD cards up to 32 GB.
SDXC cards are SD cards from 64GB up to 2048 GB.

Both are supported if you format as fat32.

You might need to make sure the partition type is set correctly, as well as the filesystem format. Though I'm not familiar with that code, so Rockbox might just ignore the partition type.

The differences between SDHC and SDXC:
SDHC: uses FAT32, partition type 0x0c. Up to 32GiB (though that's an artificial limit by the standard).
SDXC: uses exFAT, partition type 0x07. 32GiB upwards. Needs to get reformatted to FAT32 for use with Rockbox.

Apart from those there's no difference between those two that I'm aware of.

Not sure how a conclusive answer should look like. You'll never know what the industry / vendor <whatever> will sell tomorrow. As it stands right now the only relevant difference for Rockbox is the filesystem it comes with.

I was more curious if the SD card is supposed to appear as a separate file when the mp3 player is plugged into my laptop? As in, I have the SDXC card in my mp3 and then plug the mp3 in the laptop to see the files.  I am using a Mac, if that is important to know :)

It will show up as two separate drives, same as if you plugged into two different USB sticks.

Want to say that the SD card works perfectly now! Just didn't format it properly the first time. :) Thank you so much to everyone for your patience, advice and help!
