Title: New user - so lost! How to I get back to the top-level folder?
Post by: paulzimmer on September 26, 2018, 03:11:10 PM
Using version 3.14 on a Sansa ClipZip.

I've read the user manual, but I'm lost.  I get to the menu that says:
Files
Database
Resume Playback
...

When I cursor to "Files" and hit Select (or Right), nothing happens.

I know there are files on there.  I can see them when the device is mounted as USB on Windows, and I can see access them through other mechanisms on the device (database, playlist catalog).

What am I missing?  Way back when, I saw my directory structure:

/Dance
  foo.mp3
  bar.mp3
  ...

Now, nothing.  I seem to be missing something very basic.

Thanks!

Update:  A power cycle CHANGES the issue.  After the reboot, I can see all directories on the first menu that comes up.  Once I select something inside one of those directories, that directory is all I can ever see under "Files" ever again.  Is "Files" really some automatic playlist?  If so, how to I get back to that original, wonderful, "I can see everything now" screen I get after reboot?

Just reboot every time???

Thanks!

Not sure I follow your issue generally, a short press of power or left backs out of a menu try the dev version if it persists

If you go into a sub-directory under 'files' then next time you select 'files' you will still be in that sub-directory (unless you reboot in the meantime).  It remembers your place in the folder tree - which is often what you want it to do.  You have to hit left (at least on the ipod, dunno what the button is on the clipzip) to back out of that sub-directory and go up a level.

Thanks, Frankenpod, that did it!  I was in an empty directory, which is why there was nothing there.  The "back" button on my device was going up a menu level (back to Files), not up a directory level.  "Left" goes up a directory level.

Thanks so much.
