a dictionary without a directory or search feature would be really easy. all it is is a text file, and would only take up about a few hundred megs. but adding a letter by letter directory would take some minimal knowledge of html so that you could create links within the text file to the letter you selected. not very hard, but a long and somewhat tedious task.

There is already a semi functional Dictionary Plugin in Rockbox. Look around in the wiki for the plugin page, I think its called 'PluginDict'.

Hello riggi91 [and everyone else],

in your first post, you say that putting Wikipedia on an iriver is possible? Would you mind telling me where to get Wikipedia in iriverable format? I couldn't find it on wikipedia.de - I could find the file for ipod and since the iriver has a text viewer by default, I thought just downloading the *.txt would be enough, but there's none - the thing is called *.epodia??
Thanks!
Regards,

whatchamacallit

P.S.: I tried the ebook-version now. That seems right as the iriver can display ebooks, but the download will take a while yet to finish. Anyway, that one is from May 2006. Not exactly up-to-date (well, more so than Brockhaus, but...). I still haven't found out how to post on wikipedia to ask for a newer version.

P.P.S.: Oh... I just read markshelfer's post once more and I realized the *.txt file I'm just downloading probably won't do the trick - a dictionary without a search feature really isn't up to anything great, just a long list I'm not going to use because it would take forever to browse to whatever I happen to be wanting to know at a given moment...

you could try making every single word its own tex file. then you could make somthing like the search feature on computers to try to find a file.

What they are talking about with the Wikipeida plugin is a patch that hasn't been added to the main builds yet. http://www.rockbox.org/tracker/task/4755

Ah, okay. Thanks!

Well, they've been working on it since September, so maybe we'll see this feature soon. Would be Xtreeemely cool!

Hi,

is there any way I can register for some kind of Newsletter so I will know when the Wikipedia plugin has been added to the official build? I don't care about the musical features and stuff that much, so I don't regularly update the firmware for the fun of it, but a Wikipedia plugin would be really XXXtreeemely cool to have! The moment they put that in the official build, I'll get it right away.
Thanks!

Or, if you want to follow the progress of a specific patch, you can always create a Flyspray account, and receive notifications through email for all actions/comments on any given patch number (or numbers).

Thanks for the answers!

I already have a Flyspray account, created it a few days back just to submit a specific bug about the text viewer (it only supported bookmarking in one file). I got an email saying it was fixed, haven't tried it out yet.
But I will subscribe to that CVS-mailing list.

Hi guys,

maybe subscribing to that .cvs mailing list wasn't such a good idea. Now I'm receiving five or six emails a day, most of the content of which isn't particularly telling to someone not really involved in the Rockbox development process, so at the end of it I'm not getting anymore information than before.
I think I'll unsubscribe from that list again.
I think activating email notifications from Flyspray might be the better option. Then I'll receive one email for every comment probably, so that could be quite something, too, but let's see... How exactly does it work anyway?
Thanks!
