Title: Archos JBR startup only sometimes
Post by: mirador on August 22, 2007, 07:44:51 AM
Hi everybody. I have been using a JBR v1 with the superb Rockbox OS for several years now. Because the old one looked increasingly worn out I bought a "new" used one (JBR 20 v1), put a 160GB Harddisk in it and was blissfully happy with it ;-)

After a few days however, it didnt start up at the first try anymore - the disk spins up, but the starting screen doesnt show and the display doesnt light up. After pressing Off and On again in most cases it works on the second try. Sometimes however it doesnt work even after several tries - then opening the battery case, lifting up one battery and putting it down again helps, always.

When switched on after just a few minutes of not using it, it mostly starts up at the first try. I already opened the box and re-soldered whatever seemed "solderable" - the strange startup behaviour remained...

This behaviour leads me to think there might be a broken capacitor somewhere - I havent been able to locate it so far.

Anybody out there with some good advice? Thanks a lot

Karsten

Well, it does sound like the battery contacts issue.  I have 2 of them sitting opened up to the right of my awaiting to be soldered and they have the same issue as well.
