Title: Can Rockbox change the colour of a single-colour OLED display?
Post by: rjdg14 on May 05, 2021, 10:50:11 AM
Considering the way I believe OLEDs work, I'd have thought it would be possible to change the colour of a monochrome OLED display through the software on the device, but it may not be. I have an Xduoo X3 with a blue/cyan OLED display, and would personally like to change the colour to either white or red if it's possible to do so. Does anyone here know how the single colour OLED displays work on players such as the X3 and the Sansa Clip, and if this is something that can be changed by the software or if the hardware is only capable of outputting the displayed colour?

It's also possible that the devices in question actually use a white OLED display with an internal cyan (X3) or cyan/yellow (Clip) filter immediately above the display, or that the display pixels are set to that colour at the hardware level. in which case it would only be possible to change the colour using a hardware rather than software mod.

Monochrome displays only show one color (hence the name).  If you want to show different colors, you need a color display.

Monochrome displays can only display one colour simultaneously, but I was wondering considering the way that OLED technology works if it would be possible to change from cyan to another colour?
