Title: Clip Zip power button not responding. How to put back player in original state?
Post by: adrien.rb on June 18, 2012, 09:21:09 PM
Hello all,

i bought my Clip Zip a few months ago and put Rockbox on it and it worked great except some minor things but it's officialy not yet fully supported so i have no complain about that.

A few days ago, the power button stopped responding. I press it but nothing happens. It neither powers on the player nor powers it off. The only way to power it on is to plug it with the usb cable to the laptop. And the only way to power it off is to wait for it to completely go out of battery.

I want to bring it back to the shop for change, but in order for the warranty to accept it, i think it's better to completely remove RB from it (both firmware and bootloader) and reinstall the Original Firmware. In other words, put everything in the original state, as it was when I bought it. But i can't do it! I used the RB Utility, but when i want to remove the bootloader it says:

"Rockbox Utility can not uninstall the bootloader on this target. Try a normal firmware update to remove the booloader."

So I manually put the OF in the root folder.  Thing is i can't make it reboot in the OF in order to install it. I have no power button, so when i copied the OF bin file in the root folder and then unplugged the player, the player said "File not found. Plug USB cable." This is still a message from RB i guess.

One of the challenges as you understand is that the power button doesn't work. And when i plug it in, nothing happens. Except that it recognizes the player as Sansa Clip Zip, and it allows me to see the content etc.

I also tried the automatic update with the Sansa updater. The update is downloaded and at the end of the process it tells me to unplug, in order for the update to complete. I unplug and the player shows again the message "File not found. Plug USB cable."

What I want is quite simple, just remove everything and put back the OF so i can give it back to the shop. Only thing is the power button has stopped responding. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks

Adrien

You need to reboot into the sandisk firmware after copying the sandisk firmware update.  Try holding left while plugging in USB.

You know what? I loove internet, i loove forums, i liike receiving answers so quickly especially when they work!! it's amazing i really didn't expect that! :) I managed to boot into the OF again, Thank you!

I would like to erase every trace of RB, as to give it back to the shop "clean", here is the content of the root of the player, are all these files from the OF or is there anything from rockbox that i can delete?

Files:

Folders:

- Now that I've put the OF back again, can they somehow see in the memory that the RB bootloader and FW were there at some point in the past?

- Does the OF bootloader, once it's installed, appear in the player's root as a file? is it the DID.bin file ?

- Do you you think that the power button not working (it's still not working even with OF) may have been caused somehow by RB ? Or the fact that it's still not working, even now with the OF, implies that it's a mechanical problem ?

Thank you so much again ! :)
