I have a 4th gen Ipod whose scrollpad stopped working under the Apple firmware (including the navigation and on/off buttons). I decided to put Rockbox on it to see if there was any improvement.
When I plug the USB cable in, and Rockbox initializes, the scrollpad is active momentarily...until the multimedia mode kicks in. If I unplug the USB cable, Rockbox's menu comes back up, but the scrollpad is again inactive. And, when it's powered down, I can't turn it on except by plugging in the USB cable.
Given the fraction of a second after initialization that it's active, I have to assume that this is not a hardware problem. Is there anything I can do from my PC to reset the device?
Thanks

It sounds as though it's a problem with the OF (original firmware).
Have you tried restoring the device using iTunes?

PS: Back up the music on your device if you don't have copies stored anywhere else, restoring the device will erase the content stored therein.
