Title: Sansa E200 --> Repairing lifted solder pad on headphone jack. (with pics!)
Post by: Davide-NYC on January 03, 2009, 12:46:11 AM
Hello all,

I recently received a Sansa E200 from "EvilNick". Said player produced no sound from the left channel.
Upon inspection I found that the solder pad had lifted from the PCB.
I have no experience with re-attaching solder pads and was wondering if anyone had some tried and true methods they would be willing to share with me on what the best procedure to attempt this is.

I have attached a color coded image of the are in question. The YELLOW rectangle shows where the solder pad was. The GREEN line shows positive continuity tests for the other two "legs" of the headphone SMC jack. Finally, the RED line shows where I presume there was a trace though I'm not 100% sure.

Any and all opinions on how to proceed are greatly appreciated.

Hey Davide, I found this mailing list that deals with electronics repair and I found this thread in it for solder pads:

Hope this helps you out.

Alternatively, you could just solder a wire point-to-point to get the signal where it needs to go.  I would also consider additional strain relief measures as this part seems to use the solder pads as both electrical connections and mechanical support (a bad practice, IMO).  I have found hot glue to have good qualities as far as having decent adhesion and strength but also being easily removable if the need arises.

Yeah, I'm going to try to improve the strain relief of this jack using glue.
I think I will point-to-point wire it but i would like confirmation that I'm wiring it up correctly.

Done!  ;D

Notes and or photos of the repair placed in the wiki would be cool as this is a very common e200 problem.
