I have a US H320 Ver 1.04. and am interested in installing Rockbox. What do I need to do in order to get up & running. I'm aware of the lost of DMR, I don't think of that as a problem. Any help would be wonderful.
Thanks

"The US H3xx firmware is not currently supported and cannot be patched to be used with the bootloader. If you wish to install Rockbox on a US H3xx, you must use an international firmware which will permanently remove DRM support from the player. " :o
I also want to know what is this about the international firmware? ??? which link do i click and is it just like installing normal firmware and finally how will my h320 act after i install this. ???
Thanks

Digital Rights Management (DRM) is what allows your H300 to play songs purchased from Napster, Yahoo Music, etc. If you upgrade to Rockbox, you will no longer be able to use those services.

The link posted earlier in this thread contains step-by-step instructions about how to install Rockbox.

To quote my prior post: "The link posted earlier in this thread contains step-by-step instructions about how to install Rockbox."

I am another newbie with the same question. Just to be clear, what does exactly does "permanently" mean? It implies to me that once you install an international iRiver load you can never go back to the US version, RockBox or not. Is that correct?
-
As used in this thread and in the documentation page that it quotes, "permanently" has its literal meaning:
permanent
adj 1: continuing or enduring without marked change in status or condition or place; "permanent secretary to the president"; "permanent address"; "literature of permanent value" [syn: lasting] [ant: impermanent] 2: not capable of being reversed or returned to the original condition; "permanent brain damage" n : a series of waves in the hair made by applying heat and chemicals [syn: permanent wave, perm]
So you are correct. Once you flash to non-US firmware, you lose the ability to play DRM and you can never regain it.
-
At the risk of causing more confusion than clarifying things:
You can always flash your player back to US version, it's just that the DRM won't work anymore...

Thanks. That is what I thought, but wanted to be certain. To be safe, I guess I'll be patient and wait for the warranty to expire before I start RockBoxing. Past the infant mortality period the fun will begin. ;D
-
on the contrary... you should upgrade to rockbox while you are still in warrenty, that way, if the flash doesnt work you can get it repared (as long as the device is not bootable at all...)

oh crap! indeed ;) Most iriver offices consider rockboxing your player voiding warranty. There's more chance they will refuse the warranty claim as that the flashing will fail ;)
