Title: Toshiba Gigabeat F series IDE question
Post by: Dr. Mario on November 25, 2011, 02:15:36 PM
I have a question... I have Gigabeat F10 MP3 player (bought it at a pawnshop two years ago), and now that I decided to put in a ipod 30GB hard drive (with that, I aim to get 80 - 100GB hard drive eventually), went ahead and jumpered the hard drive, label up and it just flash (battery protection? I don't think so) and I thien tried reverse the polarity (switched it label down), and now I got WSOD (White Screen of Death). I am somewhat confused - I have been checking both ZIF and ATA-50 SSD specification (same pinout as both flavor of Toshiba 1.8 inch hard drives I have) so many times over, comparing the included ZIF to ATA cable header too.

I do have a suspicious feeling: It could be IO_DISABLE pin that's messing with the motherboard. If I do get enough evidences that peeling off certain traces on ZIF cable is enough to get it running, I will do that as well.

You could save yourself a whole big mess and just get a 50-pin ATA drive out of a 4th gen iPod or lower, or even just by looking around on eBay.
