After 3 months without installing a new build I tried today and unzipped the latest one in the root and after doing and disconnecting the USB nothing happened. I tried several times again and the result was the same; I don't get any screen saying to  reboot at all. When I go to see the version I have it only shows the Incompatible Version message. So, anyone knows what is going on?
-
you haven't installed the complete contents of the ".rockbox" folder.
-
How do I do it and know it has been properly done? I unzipped the new build in the root as I used to do it before...
-
you might want to remove / rename the old folder first so you can be sure it gets replaced completely. Maybe your zip tool is broken and doesn't overwrite already existing files?
-
How do I remove that folder? And which one is? My zip tool shows it is overwriting all files. Maybe I should go and check step by step where and how to install the new build again?
-
Also make sure you've removed any old "rockbox.iriver" files from the root of your iriver - that file is now inside .rockbox/
It's possible you have a very old bootload which doesn't support loading rockbox.iriver from inside .rockbox/, in which case it would still be loading the one you left in the root.
-
if you didn't update for some time, make sure you remove the rockbox.iriver-file from your root directory. It is now included in the .rockbox-folder.
I don't know precisely how the Bootloader works, but if he finds the remaining (not overwritten) rockbox-file in your root-directory and uses this one, you will get a bunch of error messages.
EDIT:
Ah, linuxtb, you beat me ;)

Last update I did was in January this year. So far all builds I update every month used to load properly. by removing you mean going to the folder of tha name and just deleting it?
-
Sorry, I didn't mean to say "files". If you have a file called rockbox.iriver in the root of your iriver, delete it.
-
Ok, just deleted that file. The unzippped again the latest build in th eroot and everything stays the same. It looks as the older build is still there and it keeps showing Incompatible Version when I go to Info.. :-\
-
No when I restarted it booted on the Iriver firmware and Rocbox doesn't boot up! ??? What did I do wrong here? I only deleted the file you mentioned.
-
Anyone knows what happened now? Do I have to install Rocbox completely to make it work gain?
-
"Rockbox doesn't boot up" is a bit undescriptive. Is there an error message shown? What is the error message? Perhaps your bootloader is too old, so it doesn't find the rockbox.iriver file inside of the .rockbox folder -- what bootloader version do you have?
Sorry, but unless you provide some more informations trying to help you is like wading through fog. You might of course try to uninstall and completely reinstall Rockbox using the procedure described in the manual using the current bootloader and build. This of course isn't the nicest solution but most likely will work.
-
What player do you have? If it is a H10 then you need to update the bootloader! The H10 now reads a rockbox.mi4 file from the root which the old bootloader could not do.
-
I have a H140. I haven't had any probs until I decided to update today because I hadn't done it since January. After unzipping the latest build to the root the player didn't show any sign of having any new build in, it just looked as it was before, same screen I had. And when I went to the Info to see if I had the latest build it showed Incompatible Version. Then I deleted the rockbox.iriver file as advised here and now the player shows it is booting in Rockbox but instead of continuing loading Rockbox it goes straight to the Iriver Firmware. I don't have time to see what it shows on screen when Rb tries to boot as it is very quick and then goes to Iriver Firmware. It happens since I deleted the mentioned file.
-
then it doesn't find the rockbox.iriver file. I assume your bootloader is outdated -- you need at least version 6 (which was released like 9 month or so ago). Alternatively, you can also move the rockbox.iriver file from the /.rockbox folder back to the root folder.
-
Just moved that file to root and it booted with the new build on. I wanted to know in case the problem happens again how to install a new bootloader. I see when it boots that says version 5.
-
You install the bootloader like ... you installed it ;-)
Updating the bootloader works the same way as installing it as it requires you to flash the system using a patched file from the iriver firmware. The manual has all instructions needed to do so.
