User Interface and Voice / Re: Narrator Voices As TTS?
« Last post by speachy on Today at 07:54:12 AM »But why? Your link mentions https://github.com/gexgd0419/NaturalVoiceSAPIAdapter which if I understand correctly, allows the use of offline Windows 11 natural narrator voices as a standard SAPI engine
In other words, Microsoft used a different API for local "Narrators" and a third party wired it up to SAPI.
Presumably if someone installs that, the Rockbox Utility's existing SAPI support will JustWork(tm).

« Last post by speachy on December 10, 2024, 01:56:23 PM »The Narrator voices in Windows 11 are phenomenal. But, they're not TTS. Is there a way to use those voices to create talk files?
I'm legally blind and very familiar with Rockbox. If the above doesn't work, can anyone recommend any free TTS engines? The few built in TTS voices aren't that bad, but I kind of like playing with different voices.
This seems to answer your question:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/78184469/can-i-use-the-narrator-natural-voices-added-in-windows-11-in-system-speech-synth
The short answer: No.
The longer answer: Not without paying Microsoft to use their (online only) Azure Speech APIs.

https://i.redd.it/azmo5wcv9szb1.jpg
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/F-X9DwOX0AAzG_q?format=jpg&name=large
Both appear to be Hirose branded but the part numbers differ (7F?5 and 1635?) and I can't make them out.
EDIT:
I found the part number on Reddit here and its a FH26W-35S-0.3SHW(60). When I last searched for this years ago I couldn't find the part number but this Reddit post was in the last month!
Hopefully this can help someone else.

Other Utilities / Offtopic - iPod 6g HDD ZIF connector replacement
« Last post by rockbox_dev123 on December 08, 2024, 04:25:10 PM »There's no good place to post this on the forum so I'm trying here.
I have an iPod 6g where the brown ZIF latch is damaged (missing) on the motherboard. Does anyone know the part name/number to replace it?
Desoldering the latch and fitting a new one with flux and hot air is probably slightly outside of my skill ability however if I could ID the replacement part I might be able to get some quotes from an electronics shop before trying it myself.
Added a picture.

Apple - Installation/Removal / Re: iPod Classic - no file system mount point
« Last post by akomives on December 08, 2024, 09:01:25 AM »Hej,
I have tried this utility, as well. Doesn't recognize the iPod. Have tried DFU mode, as well.
I just wonder: if I would remove the hard drive and replace it with a solid-state memory board, such as https://www.iflash.xyz/store/iflash-solo/ would I get a fresh start?
There wouldn't be any sort of Apple filesystem on that one, since it uses a 3rd party SD-card as memory.
My theory is that if I would use a solid state drive it would be possible to restore it in iTunes, since there is no previous filesystem (being corrupted) hindering the process.
The iPod itself is in pristine condition, I have always kept it in a protective cover. So no scrathes on the surface, the dial is working well, no screen scratch either. It would only need a fresh battery and a solid state drive update. And of course RockBox FW....
