Title: Newbie: Why no gfx overlays?
Post by: CowonFTW on September 26, 2010, 07:29:40 PM
Hi.

In looking through all the examples and themes here, it's obvious that there's a technical issue with graphical overlays, else at least one theme would implement them.

If they're currently unavailable (easily, anyway) can you fake them by flipping background images on an event? I know there are animated WPS screens. This would at least be good for echoing a softbutton presses on a touchscreen interface.

Sorry if this is basic stuff, I did search both the wiki and forum, and words like overlay, animation, animated, etc. turn up little or nothing.

Thanks in advance!

if you just want to show an image when the user is touching the screen tha can be done easily, have a look at the android cabbie...  http://svn.rockbox.org/viewvc.cgi/trunk/wps/cabbiev2.320x480x16.wps?revision=27732&view=markup

Hi.

Thanks JdGordon. I'll investigate that. What I hope to do is make a more intuitive interface for touchscreen units, but this sort of requires overlays (perhaps multiple-level overlays). Navigation is slightly cumbersome / clunky on a touchscreen, and considering the way the redraw flickers when text overlaps a graphic icon on the WPS screen and the lack of hits on "overlay" I guess it's not supported yet?
