Title: %iC for ID3 comment tag is truncated - any way round this?
Post by: Frankenpod on October 12, 2016, 04:09:33 PM
A lot of podcasts have quite long 'comment' fields, describing the content, listing contributors etc.  The Ipod OF can show you this info.

I was trying to make an ipod classic/video theme to show it, nicely formatted (perhaps only when 'paused') but it seems as if the text retrieved by %iC is truncated to approx 240 characters.  Podcasts often have longer comments than this.
Am I doing something wrong or does Rockbox truncate this field?  The comments appear correctly in full in, say, mp3tag.

There are other odd things that happen with comments, in that sometimes ones that appear OK in mp3tag come out as long strings of hex in Rockbox...but not always.  But I think that one might not be a specifically Rockbox issue, as I very vaguely remember another program showing that there were two different tags in some files, one possibly put there by iTunes, and perhaps there's some inconsistency about where ID3 comment tags are located.

Iirc tags are limited to 240 characters per field in rockbox.

Pity, as I wanted to replicate the OF feature that showed that data for podcasts.  Can't be achieved without delving into the code itself I guess.
