Title: System error C00F84E0, WTF?
Post by: BEEBEE! on March 29, 2009, 05:31:18 PM
I was happy to find rockbox today as I attempted to find a better system for Vista. gigabeat was pretty lame even with their update.

I downloaded rock box and had several issues. One, I could not open the DAT file on my desktop. 2. I could not get all of my files to be acknowledged. 3. There was not a rock box interface (media player)on my computer. I downloaded both the bootloader and rockbox. I was getting error messages during the process. 4. And most importantly, my gigabeat will not turn off unless i toggle the battery switch. The message says, "System error C00F84E0".

I am very upset. I wish I used my other computer with gigabeat. At least it didn't screw my system.

Anyt help would be great,

Be well,

Bill

1) You're not supposed to "open" a .dat file. What instructions are you following?
2) What files? Acknowledged by what?
3) Rockbox isn't something you use on your computer.
4) What did you actually do to cause this?

Please take a step back, and try to explain exactly what you did. Don't use words like "it" or "the program" but instead use the actual filenames or program names of the things you ran.

There is no point in explaining. My mp3 player is no longer acknowledged by any computer.

I got "No mounting point"

I expected some sort of interface like WMP, Gigabeat room, etc.

I only installed/uninstalled seven times.

I briefly got rockbox on my gigabeat, yet only saw one friggin artist out of 554 artists. IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH?

I must say that this was pretty aggravating, though I am a layman, whatever. I don't expect much at this point. Thanks anyway. I don't know how to explain what happened. I may have disconnected when I saw Bootloader on the gigabeat for longer than ten minutes.

No its not.  You really haven't explained what happened or what you did.  Why not start over and explain which steps in the instructions you got to and what happened when you did them.  Its impossible to help you without knowing exactly what you've done.

I've installed rockbox on the Gigabeat.  Its actually pretty simple to do, so if its not working its probably just some silly mistake or more seriously there could be something wrong with the gigabeat itself.  Hard to say though since I can't make out what problem you're having.

Thank you both, but I couldn't be more descriptive (trauma) and will buy another mp3. This one is in pieces. Another site mentioned tapping the gigabeat to get the needle unstuck on the drive. Well, it was tapped to death. I will never get another gigabeat, though they are solid, but the toshiba support was undesirable to say the least.

I was looking at iomega. I have a portable external hard drive they make and it is great.

I don't think its fair to blame toshiba for you smashing your gigabeat to "pieces".  The shell is actually quite solid by the standards of modern DAPs.  Its unlikely that a typical mp3 player would have performed any better.

I'd also like to remind you that manufactorers like Toshiba do not provide any support for Rockbox, so you should not contact them with rockbox related problems.

You misunderstood. I owned the player for five years. That is a long time for service discernment, don't you THINK? Why would I talk to them about rockbox?

Are you a troll or a bleeding twit?

These are the Rockbox forums. Anything you tell us here should be related to Rockbox, as per the guidelines. He's not at troll, he just assumed you were actually following your side of the agreement when signing up. His fault, I guess, for assuming the best of you.

I'm locking this now. It's clear you can't be helped, since you've lost your temper and destroyed your player. Just as tip, the player was almost certainly actually recoverable, even though computers couldn't see it normally. Smashing things isn't the answer.
