Title: H320 won't run Rockbox
Post by: geriman on December 25, 2010, 04:36:42 PM
This has probably come up before, but I can't find a solution that works for me.
My H320 is nearly full, so I decided to switch to a CF card. Was a bit ambitious and got a 64GB card and the adaptor.
Fits in fine, and my PC recognises it and transfers data (ie music) to it, but the firmware won't recognise it (1.29 J version).

So I decided to go to Rockbox, put the old HDD drive back in, and installed it.

Except that although the automatic installation thing seems to work fine, the thing still boots up with the original firmware. Pretty sure I followed the process to the letter.
And clearly, given that the CF card isn't acknowledged, I can't install it from there.
I tried running the 1.29 firmware upgrade again, but it made no difference. Someone seemed to suggest that re-copying the .hex file onto the H320 might work - it just over-writes the existing copy - but that made no difference either.

So I'm stuck.

Advice welcome.

No solution?

Anyone want to by a 64GB Transcend Compact Flash then?

Have you checked that Rockbox is running with the original HDD in place? Also, have you tried re-flashing the patched hex file (not copying it to the player)? There is a known issue when the H300 players sometimes need flashing twice.

By flashing I presume you mean, copying the patched hex file onto the HDD, and running the firmware upgrade process.
Basically nothing happens - it acts as if there is no upgrade to install. I then put the H300(jp) hex file on as well, but it just re-installs the 1.29j firmware.

And although when I go through the automatic installation process you get from here (http://www.rockbox.org/download/), and all the files and folders appear on the HDD, it still runs the usual firmware on restarting.

So I'm confused!!!

How do you put that file on the player? When using Rockbox Utility it will place the patched hex file on the player so you don't need to copy anything around, especially make sure you didn't copy the unpatched firmware file on the player.

Oh, someone sent me a file he described as a patched HEX file, which I think was the 1.29K version.

Didn't work.

Sorted it.

Now I just need to get the damn CF card to work...
