Title: not right.
Post by: mrlargefoot on October 26, 2006, 01:54:46 PM
i put rockbox on my player fine (H320), and it is still working absolutely great. My girlfriend loved the games so i put it on hers (also h320). But as soon as i get back home from a few days at hers i get a message through on gmail: "my mp3 player is broken??"

anyway, i havent seen exactly what is wrong with it so i only have a limated description of what is happening, here is the conversation:

firstly the email:

So I took those 2 files that you told me too off my mp3 player so I
could charge it up and now it is not working at all. When I try and
connect it too the computer its compleatly blank. And when I try to
turn it on normally it goes onto a screen that says firmware boot and
then turns itself off after about 1/2 a second.

and the conversation:

me: right
so you took the folder and the file off
Eva: yup
well deleted them
but kept the folder thats on the the desktop
me: and now it does nothing
does it have much battery
Eva: I really dont think its out of battery
its the firmware
thats what it says when i try to turn it on
its says - rockbox boot loader, vr 5, batt: 3.77 v, loading firmware, result : -1 then it makes a nasty click and turns off
me: i'll post it on the forum

now i told her to take the .rockbox folder off and the rockbox.iriver file off so she could charge it via USB without having to dualboot it and use the original firmware if needbe. I could really do with some help on this as i really dont want to be responsible for losing her whole music collection.

Cheers. matt

Just have her go to the downloads section of this site and download the most recent daily build for her player.   Unzip it to the root directory of her player.

There is no need to take those files off to charge via USB.  Just turn the player off and hold the record button as you insert the USB cable.

but from what i hear, when she turns it on the iriver Hdd is blank. Has she lost all her files?

If she deleted only the .rockbox directory and rockbox.iriver file, there is no reason that she would have lost all of her files, but I can't say what she actually did.  I suppose it is possible that she inadvertently deleted other data.

What happens if she boots into the iriver firmware by turning the player off and then pressing and holding record and play?
