Title: Federal Prison Clip+ Firmware
Post by: backhome2017 on June 09, 2015, 09:54:11 AM
Does anybody know where I could find an image of the federal prison clip+ firmware? I believe it is version 01.03.23A. It works differently and I wanted to kind of play with it and compare it to the OF. Maybe learn a few things along the way.

Thanks.

Here is an image dumped from the internal storage of one of those players:

Thanks!! Doesn't seem to want to work when I try to upgrade the firmware. I renamed the file to clppa.bin. It starts to Upgrade firmware but shuts down without saying it completed. When you turn it back on it reverts to the way it was before. Any ideas?

Ok, so I am learning bit by bit here. LOL. I tried to get rockbox to patch to the Prison firmware. Unfortunately, you guys have done such a great job at testing and making sure nothing fails that it will not attach to version 01.03.23 which is the version I am working with. Is there a known workaround for this? Maybe using a development patch as opposed to a stable one??

Thats an image of the firmware from the device, not a firmware update.  You might be able to short the NAND pins and them image that file over the firmware on your device, but the player would probably be ruined even if it works since the BoP players need to be authorized to even play music.

I can short the pins and place the image on there I am sure. And if I need to I can short them again so that I can put the OF on there. I was trying to learn more about patching and so forth and comparing code from the OF to the bop one and see if I can learn some things. It appears as though Rockbox will not patch to this image. Maybe its because it is not an official copy of the image from Sandisk or just because it doesn't recognize a version number. I am not too worried about permanently trying to play music with it. I am just tinkering to try and learn more. Sometimes I spin my wheels and come up with nothing so I ask for a little direction. I am use to Object-Oriented Programming that this is like starting over. Haha. I am having a blast though. Great way to spend hours of the day. Anymore ideas on patching Rockbox to this?

Let me try to be more clear: that is not a firmware update and so you cannot patch it. It is the actual firmware from the devices NAND.
