Title: XRacer: a little racing game
Post by: __builtin on January 24, 2015, 03:54:05 PM
I've recently begun development on a new plugin, known as "XRacer" (for now!).

It's been envisioned as a racing game, but the specifics have not yet been worked out.

For now, it's just a graphical demo that does a fly-through over a road.

Code is at http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/1124

Any ideas/suggestions/feedback you may have are badly needed.

Here's an list of things that I'll probably need to complete this plugin:
 - A name!
 - A game story
 - Sprites (cars, trucks, billboards, etc.)!
 - Maps!
 - A map editor to make maps
 - Some people to help me out :P

Spaces in file names?

What kind of madness is this?!?

Perhaps "speedway.rock" or "speed.rock" would be a good adaptation of the name.

Then "Rockbox Speedway" could be the full name of the game.

If I wrote in LUA, it'd get about 1 FPS. :P

This seems pretty neat. Reminds me of Rad Racer on the NES, which gave me endless frustration. :P

I really don't have any skills to help with the project, but I'll cheer for ya.

I know this hasn't been posted in for a while, but I'd love to see this get worked on.
I could offer my help in making graphics and sound (if that's needed). I have examples of my gfx work at http://www.vg-resource.com/thread-25648-page-5.html and my YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCM0jv_zGf3_fUIciomDGEmQ.
Also, maybe RoCar or Rockbox GP? idk

I'vebeen inactive for a while now, but I'd love to get back to xracer when I find some time.
I'm also thinking about porting it to run on an SDL to make development a bit easier to approach.
However, I'm locked out of Gerrit now due to google ending openid 2.0 support, so until I can get into gerrit again to change my email, no rockbox work from me :(
