Title: iPod Classic 7th gen:can't copy folders using Rockbox
Post by: Kickback44 on July 04, 2020, 07:10:24 AM
Hi,
I'm using an iPod Classic 7th gen with 1 TB storage. I've installed Rockbox and now I would like to copy paste folders (with music) onto the iPod. I made a folder on the iPod called "Music", not in  Everytime I'm trying to copy folders, after a couple of minutes the speed of transferring files goes to zero and I get an error (file couldn't be transferred). The transfer of files takes for ages at a speed of 5 Mb/s. At first I was able to copy paste folders piece by piece (around 10 GB per piece), but now I just can't copy paste even an 15 MB file, the transfer of files just freezes and I have to disconnect the iPod from the pc over and over again.
I've tried to copy files in the Apple mode and in the Rockbox mode, bot nothing works.
Am I doing something wrong with the data transfer of folders? I really need your help on this one. Thank you in advance

Is this an ssd mod or a sd-card mod?

If the latter just boot into apple firmware to sync and it should be fine.

I think SSD mods might have other issues - there was at one point a rockbox patch to make timings less strict to enable those things to work.

But maybe the same issue applies as with sd-card mods - where you just need to copy the files across while the ipod is connected after booting in original firmware (OF) mode.  If you search this forum you will see that comes up again and again, and usually that solves it.
But that's with sd-card mods, when I had an SSD pod I found it no end of trouble to sync.  For one thing it can overheat during the transfer.  SD cards seem to work a lot better, as long as you sync in OF mode.
