Hardware / Re: Hifiman HM-801: Newer builds became unstable. Can I help?
« Last post by speachy on Today at 07:51:25 AM »Hello! I've installed the new release (08bd5cdd3d-250410). Thank you very much for it! Everything works fine on an old card.
I've read in the release notes the following: "Rockbox is still limited to 16-bit audio playback!" Do I understand correctly that, despite the support for hi-res files, I hear 16-bit sound? Are there any plans to add 24-bit playback support?
Correct; Rockbox's internal audio path is 16-bit only, and there are no particular plans to change that. Heck, there's barely even so much as a sketch as to what the new internal audio APIs would need to look like.
But it's largely a moot point; at the end of the day, if the hardware only supports 16-bit playback, that's all you'll ever get.
(The HM801 is one of the few devices we support that has 24-bit capable hardware; most are 16-bit only)

Feature Ideas / Re: Do not turn off backlight until the Never setting is applied
« Last post by iPodVT on April 18, 2025, 11:11:38 PM »I just now tried this and got the same result as questions2000.
If you highlight any item in the Backlight setting list but don't click it, the backlight turns off after that item's specified time. If you click an item its setting gets saved and if you left/back click you exit the menu and the 'new' setting gets cancelled.
This is a common behavior in at least several Settings menus and I assume it's intended as a way to preview the effect of the setting. The Volume setting menu works the same way. So does the Compressor Threshold menu.

Feature Ideas / Do not turn off backlight until the Never setting is applied
« Last post by questions2000 on April 18, 2025, 10:28:16 PM »(iPod but not sure if iPod specific issue)
Sorry this is kind of a suggestion/question/bug report
(If this is a bug, I cannot report, would someone be willing to report this)
In General Settings - Display - LCD Settings - Backlight and Backlight (While Plugged In)
If you bring the highlight to the "Never" option it instantly turns off your Backlight.
To me it seems like the backlight should not turn "off" until the user actually clicks the "Never" option to apply it.
Not sure if anyone else experiences this / agrees?
Thank You
This is not backlight issue I mentioned I notticed in my other post, I edited that out, not sure if anyone read it before I did.
I had noticed a different possible issue regarding a combination of Backlight settings, the only thing is it is a rather specific use case so probably not something that will be addressed.
Also I find the use case valuable but could be improved upon, but I am scared to mention because it might be removed instead. Have to think about if worth mentioning.

Feature Ideas / Re: Add Main Menu customization to Settings
« Last post by iPodVT on April 18, 2025, 09:59:32 PM »Would adding a link to main_menu_config.rock somewhere in the Settings Browser or in the Settings context menu be a reasonable fail-safe solution?

« Last post by iPodVT on April 18, 2025, 09:37:24 PM »In fact, one could make a shortcut to the /.rockbox/rocks (Plugins) directory and then still have easy access to all plugins after hiding the Plugins, Shortcuts, and Files items in the Main Menu.

Feature Ideas / Re: Add Main Menu customization to Settings
« Last post by iPodVT on April 18, 2025, 09:29:40 PM »Right - I was just suggesting a way to preemptively maintain easy alternative access before hiding the Plugins item in the Main Menu. The Shortcuts and/or Quick Screen links could be preemptively made accessible even if Files and Shortcuts are also subsequently removed from the Main Menu.

« Last post by chris_s on April 18, 2025, 09:22:25 PM »@iPodVT: Some users may want to hide the File Browser as well, so it is at least possible to lose access to the main menu config plugin.

Feature Ideas / Re: Allow iPod lock switch to function as a light switch

Thank you for reply.
Ohh I did not think about "lock switch" achieving the "locking" of controls on a hardware level, I thought this was happening on a software level that could be changed.
That is unfortunate, I thought this could be a helpful feature.
Thank you again for reply/sharing this information.
If anyone is aware if this is possible, please mention it.

While I was typing this post I got a message that another user responded at the same time
Thank you for your reply as well.
Ahh I wish it was reverse, because my use case is slightly different.
But this answers the question I had, what does the "off" setting do
I had my backlight off at the time, so was not thinking about it as reverse
Different then what I am looking for unfortunately, but a good idea though.
