Title: support for fast-forward/rewind via iPod wheel
Post by: monsoon on July 09, 2007, 12:28:36 PM
Are there any plans to add support for FF/RW seeking using the iPod wheel?  This was a key feature I liked about the iPod.  The problem I have always had with the "tap the >>| button once to skip track, hold it down to FF" is that it's very easy to accidentally skip when you mean to just FF.  This is especially true in a large audiobook when the file may be many minutes long.  It's absolutely frustrating to do this and have to go back and find your place.  Especially if you weren't paying enough attention and know what minute you were in originally.  It seems sad that such a basic feature in the original firmware could be omitted.  Rockbox should be a superset of features, not just a different set.

I've never actually used an ipod so can only imagine how much nicer this would be.

I suggest you file a feature request (click on the link to the left).  Do a search first to check if it's already been requested first.

Cool, thanks for the reply.  Just wanted to make sure I wasn't just dredging up a topic that the devs were dead set against.  It IS a very cool feature, especially for the audiobook-phile.  It's actually the single feature about the iPod interface that I thought was actually "revolutionary".
:D

Entering feature request now!

Dang.  Looks like it was suggested way back in May 2006.  A potential developer named krypticmind seemed interested, but it doesn't appear that they ever followed up on it.  Then it got a ping in November but seems to have languished since then.

I'm adding a comment in support.  Hopefully someone will pick it up.  Then again, maybe it will force me into learning the code and getting involved...
