Thanks for raising a bug! For now I've reverted back to the original FIIO 1.4.5 firmware for now since I like some of it's behaviours and UI experience but it lacks themes which rockbox was awesome for. Hoping to come back to rockbox in the near future :)

What kind of behavioirs of the FiiO firmware do you like? I have never actually used their firmware and went straight to Rockbox.

Starting Development and Compiling / Re: Setting up the Win32 cross compiler from WSL
« Last post by 7o9 on Today at 01:56:05 PM »
To follow up on our brief exchange on IRC, I can compile the current version on my Ubuntu on Windows Subsystem for Unix following the guide at https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/Windows10CrossCompiler.

I was wrong that I compiled mine last in winter, it was actually in june 2021.

The only thing I did to make it compile was edit apps/plugins/SUBDIRS to remove midi/mikmod/lua/lua_scripts. It is quite possible some of these can be made to compile, but I did not need them.

My Ubuntu is a bit old now though, it is 20.04 (outdated too, last updated june 2021). mingw-w64 claims to be 7.0.0-2, with i686-w64-mingw32-gcc 9.3-win32.

With those 4 plugins removed, it compiles quickly and without errors.

User Interface and Voice / Re: How to "Open Now-Playing folder" in file browser?
« Last post by bohinti on Today at 11:36:19 AM »
Thanks for your comments.
"follow playlist" option is the closest to what I was looking for.

Unfortunately, still need a few extra clicks if I'm coming from the database, but this is much better than before.

*File browser* -> WPS -> select (at now-playing folder)
*Database* -> WPS -> menu -> files -> play -> select (at now-playing folder)

Thanks!

Enable the "follow playlist" option.

Not quite sure if this is what you are after but press and hold the Down key to list the tracks in the folder / playlist of the Now Playing track (with the Now Playing track on display).  This is an easy way to go play a different track in that folder / playlist.

Rockbox Utility / Installing on X3
« Last post by T7Backdoor on Today at 04:12:07 AM »
Hi all,
after reviving my old X3, hoping to place my 2x256 sd cards filled with my mp3 collection (and after the abandon of 2 Fioo players, X5 and X5 3rd gen for many reasons), i have downloaded the utility to install Rockbox 3.15 in it.
I place an old 1gb sd formatted as advised, start the sw and the autorecon. All seems to be ok. I can select the mountport (in my system H:), then i select what to install and select 'install'.
The sw asks for the original firmware. I have downloaded it from different locations (1.1), but seems without success. The sw works a second, then closes without other messages.
Now, XDuoo has one firmware for the X3 (abandoned), i try all the one i found...without success.
I try the trick of installing the firmware and then use it for the Rockbox utility install, but no success.
Only one thing i can do is using an old installation of Rockbox (rockbox-full-c140430-180720), that is functioning, but require the .rockbox folder in the SD card (and i can use only one of my old sd card, a 128gb formatted as required).
To be clear, i work with a Win10 Pro system, with 3 units (C D and E) and 2 DVD burners (F and G). Seems strange, but i upgrade the system leaving all the units that are present. 4 Usb are 3rd gen, 4 older 2 gen. My language is italian (maybe is helping).
Some ideas (or further info needed)?
Thanks for the help, have a nice day!

Audio Playback, Database and Playlists / Re: Clip Zip FLAC cover art tagging?

Flac and vorbis use different methods to store cover art and the one used by vorbis is a lot more work to support.

User Interface and Voice / How to "Open Now-Playing folder" in file browser?
« Last post by bohinti on May 25, 2022, 07:17:16 PM »
Hi all,
Is there a shortcut or other method to navigate to current playing song in the file browser?

I'm not talking about pressing Select from the WPS screen to Return to the File Browser / Database.
I want to go to the containing folder of the 'Now playing' song regardless of where I was previously.

I normally filter my music selection using the database, but then want to find my selection in the file browser.

Thanks!

2013-12-13: Add support for album art in FLAC files

https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/MajorChanges
This is cool (and I didn't realize until just yesterday), but why would it be added for FLAC files but not Ogg Vorbis files, since FLAC uses Vorbis comment (and therefore, AFAIK at least, the same convention for embedded album art)?  Or is there some fundamental underlying difference between how the art is embedded, which continues to prevent it from working in Ogg files?
