Hi all:
I have an iPod Video Enhanced w/original hard drive on Rockbox 3.15. If I turn it off then back on (or if it automatically shuts off, then I turn it on), the database will display the "Database is not ready Initialize Now" message. This might happen every other reboot, so it's not 100% consistent. I've even restored a .rockbox backup (which obviously fixes the problem of having my ratings erased), but that's only worked as a temporary fix, since I'm still having the problem. I don't know if this is a bug with Rockbox itself, or if it's something that I can fix. It's just really irritating, seeing as it forces me to erase my song ratings every time. I'd appreciate some help with this issue, or at the very least a point in the right direction.
Thanks!

Official release 3.15 is quite old by now.
You might have better results with the latest development build.
-
Yeah, I thought you might say that. I'll give it a try... Can I just copy/paste the database files from 3.15 to the latest dev build to keep my ratings?
-
I am not sure about that. As it has been quite a while, there might have been changes.
Backup the .rockbox folder that is on your player right now so you can always go back if needed.

Alrighty then.

I had similar issues on a classic, but with a flash adapter. I found out that the file system was corrupted. Once I repaired the file system, on a Mac it is first aid, on a PC you can do it with CHKDSK /f, it’s solved my problem. The database files are not compatible between 3.15 and the newest builds, I suggest you install the newest build, and rebuild the database, and see . But first check your file system for corruption.

Okay, I just tried using fsck on it. But unfortunately it didn't fix my problem. So I'm just going to have to upgrade to a dev build.
-
Although, Is there a way that I can preserve my song ratings when moving over? Or do I have to manually re-rate all of them?
-
Lately my Fiio M3k manifest same simptoms.
Database go every reboot.

rebuilding the db should fix it but keep your old db files for the moment i'll look into in the next week

I think you can save ratings with the export/import modifications options (https://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-ipodvideo/rockbox-buildch4.html#x7-480004.2.3) in the database settings. I have never tried it though.

Well, that solved my problem, thanks for the suggestion! I copy/pasted the database files with my ratings, exported modifications, initialized the database, imported modifications, and after updating and restarting the iPod a few times, the database remains untouched!
Thanks to everyone for your help!
