Title: Can't update F20
Post by: ripjack on August 06, 2007, 05:51:04 AM
Hi all

I'm not sure what happened but I switched on my F20 for the 1st time since Christmas and now it comes up with an error message saying "No system on HDD". I tried updating the firmware with no luck so I looked on the net for a solution and my search (thankfully) led me here :)

I thought the rockbox custom fw would solve my problems (not to mention it looks sooo good) but I'm still where I was yesterday...with a Gigabeat that won't turn on. I've followed all the Rockbox instructions to the last letter but my Gigabeat is still not updating. Can anyone help?

The Rockbox instructions expect a "working" device. If you can't get it working with the official firmware, there's a decent chance that something in the device has failed. It could be a bad disk, or the connection between the device and the disk, or any of a number of things. Especially considering the install of Rockbox didn't work, as that pretty much rules out simply corrupt files on the disk.

Can you mount the Gigabeat in Windows?

I Got it to work!! :)

Thanks Llorean and Saratoga. I think I figured it out. After reading GodEater's post here http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=8927.msg69707#msg69707

I plugged my GB into the computer again and realised I still had a folder called "update" in the root. And since GodEater's post didnt mention it, (I presumed it was from the unsuccessful firmware update I tried before) I deleted the folder and viola...magic :)
