Can't play
Chronon:
Yeah, but unencrypted WMA files will not do him any good, either.
dolph002:
i think someone should make some sort of manual that would tell a person how all this works..

Nate!:
What is your question? With all of the codecs that Rockbox supports, things can get confusing as far as which one to choose. Really the decision is up to your ears. Things to consider are: how much disk/memory space you have and whether you want to sacrifice quality for the amount of media you put on your player. Then you just have to choose, which codec do I want that will server my purpose for my player.
Me, personally, I use the mp3 format simply because that's what I've always used. I didn't know about ogg/vorbis, mpc, or any of the lossy or lossless formats before I started in the digital music life. If I had to do it all over again, I think I still would choose the mp3 format. It's more widely used/playable, strictly IMHO, and so sharing between my device and say my wife's is much easier.
It is, however, on the Gigabeat Port page that Rockbox does not support the .sat "encrypted" format native to the original firmware. Luckily, also on the Gigabeat Port page are instructions for removing the encryption.
Good luck in your decision.
GodEater:
Although removing .SAT encryption from .WMA files will not help him - as someone else has already pointed out - since we don't support .WMA yet. So currently re-ripping / encoding to is his only choice.

He should just be thankfull he doesn't have to do it real time as with MD ATRAC files, that, my friend, is a real horror.
