For those interested in a Standalone player:

There has been work done on the MG35 from Altech in that people are looking into creating homebrew firmware for it. Recently, the company has released some parts of the firmware as open source since a good bit of the firmware was stolen GPL code.  The people working on it so far released a version with a fixed ac3 audio codec (video player) and a slighty updated GUI. Their work so far can be found in two places.
