Do I Need or should I install "gigabeat room" before installing Rockbox?

First post.
I just received my Toshiba gigabeat F40.  I've heard so many problems about the original software, "gigbeat room," that I've decided to go with Rockbox.  This is the first time I've heard about Rockbox or even the ability to install stuff on an mp3.  Ergo, I apologize in advance for any stupidity.

Question: I've charged my F40 and set the date and time and turned it off by holding the power buttong (battery button still at "on").  Can I go ahead and start downloading Rockbox or should I first install "gigabeat room" as a backup or something?

If you don't get a reply for over 2 days in our forums, you're probably never getting one.

Gigabeat room does back up your firmware though, so you could install it if you plan on going back from rockbox.

it only backs up some of it. not all of it. I suggest making multiple copies of your GBSYSTEM folder before intstalling rockbox just in case you ever want to go back in the future to see how much it really sucked.
