Rockbox Freezes for 30mintues at a time!!
Mozhoven1:
Thanks for the detailed reply.
So, if I understand things correctly, I can have anything in the FWIMG directory as long as the file names are right.
What really matters is the integrity of the build & bootloader.
So, If I'm running the March 12 bootloader (single .dat file)
and if I'm running the latest bulild everything should be working.
So, for the sake of discussion, If my bootloader is right, I'm able to run an older version of rockbox with both the old and new bootloader, then what could be hanging up a new install?
UPDATE: I just checked and found a new bootloader was released a few days ago. I copied it over, along with todays build and the font package. I performed the proper USB shut down and turned off the GB, and then power switch for 10 seconds. I booted back up and it took a while, but eventually I got to the main menu. I immediately navigated to "settings" and "themes". It locked up even trying to scroll down the menu. It's been 10 minutes and it's still stuck on the first selection on the list. Any thoughts?

- How long have you had your gigabeat for.
- Since you have had the gigabeat have you used it in activities where it might be slacken around a great deal.
- The reason that I am asking is the problems that you are describing sound somewhat like a hard drive that might have bad sectors on the disk, or is starting to fail. :-\

I've had it for about two years now. In general it has been well taken care of. It's always lived in a silicone skin. I'll admit I did a fair amount of opening it up in the old days of forcing the JP firmware, but I was very careful.
It's only been dropped once, and not very badly.
Could be the HDD. I've been looking for an excuse to pop in one of those new 80GB drives from Toshiba. But honestly I would prefer to get the one I have working. It's never given me trouble until I tried the new build after a month or so of "updating neglect".
UPDATE: I decided to leave the alone after it "hangs" when I tried to choose something like EQ preset or Theme. As it turns out, if left alone, it eventually registers any button movements I made and executes them all. This happens up to 10-20 minutes after the fact. It only does this with the new builds, and doesn't do it with the 1/21/07 build. (or older). So, I'm thinking that it can't be the HDD - it would stand to reason that if it was a bad HDD it would perform equally buggy no matter the build date.

Ok Guys,
I'm still having issues with the player freezing when I choose items. Often, after choosing an item like "theme" and it freezes for about 30 minutes - after that point, it'll navigate and allow me to pick any theme and change it as normal. BUT, if I go to another menu and pick something there, it's the same story. It never gets better.
Are there any new thoughts on why this is?
Stupid Question: When you update your player with the Daily Build, it contains ALL the current features/fixes, right? You don't have to update it every day for the current build to work, correct?
In other words: Because I waited a month to update, did I miss important updates in the daily builds that cause the new ones to work incorrectly - not counting the bootloader....)

It really sounds like your HDD is failing or has some serious filesystem issues. You'll want to run some sort of check against it like scandisk/chkdsk to see if there's any bad sectors. If those don't find anything, try defragging the drive. If that doesn't fix it, try formatting it and starting again.
