Ipod Photo Help Please
« on: April 15, 2007, 08:10:30 PM »
I have just installed rockbox on my 60GB ipod photo I have read the manual ans searched these boards and can't find the solution to my problem.

I am trying to use the database and I can't seem to get it to work.

I have initialized and rebooted and I saw rockbox say that it was commiting but yet when I go to database all I have is a totally blank screen what it going on?
It makes no difference whether I turn on the loading in ram or not.

Also I can't play my songs through the file browser either, it says "no codec for(file path)

please help

It sounds like you haven't properly installed Rockbox.

The empty screen means that tagnavi.config wasn't found, and the "no codec" means the codec wasn't found.

Where exactly is your .rockbox folder, and what folders does it contain?

Thank you for the reply. I tried to do this just like the manual said I put the contents of the rockbox firmware zip file on the root of my ipod. the tagnavi.config is also on the root.

I do have a .rockbox folder on the root also and that contains database files a fonts folder backdrops folder and themes folder

The contents of the rockbox.zip is just one thing: the .rockbox folder.

In that folder is everything else. The manual says to extract the rockbox.zip into your iPod's root. If tagnavi.config went into the root instead of the .rockbox folder, you've done it wrong (you didn't preserve directory structures).

Just a heads up, the Ipod Photos tend to have a crashing problem.  I use the custom (unsupported) builds that you can download from the site below, and mine never crashes anymore.

thank you for the heads up. I started fresh and indeed it now works, I am just waiting to get my music copied again.

One of the things I have to deal with is ID3 tags I keep the artist and album names tagged but I don't tag the track name because normally I just let QCD (quintessential player) read the file name apparently I have to tag track names for rockbox to read them properly. I saw in a post a program mentioned to do that but I can't remember it.

Can anyone help me out

Some themes (and all the included ones should) will default to filename if no title tag is found.

However, you would be much better off tagging the files, for consistency if nothing else.

I always recommend MP3Tag for this purpose

Or EasyTag if you're on Linux - usually available from online linux repositories.
