Simulator build error: "find: apps: No such file or directory" -- what to do?
« on: April 15, 2007, 12:57:38 PM »
In trying to build the Simulator this morning for the H-140, after I entered make install, I received the message
Quote
installing a full setup in your archos dir
as expected, but then, a few moments later,
Quote
find: apps: No such file or directory
and then a moment later I got the user prompt.

Any idea what to do, to finish the Simulator build?

I am guessing you did not do a  make all  before trying the  make install.

Thanks. I thought I did, but I deleted the Sim folder and started from scratch, and it's fine now.

Haven't used the Sim for awhile.  The last time I used it, it showed a photo of a player and remote themselves (in this case, the iRiver H140) including the interactive screens; now, I only have the main and remote screens.  Is that the way it should be (I didn't find information on this)?

I know for the Gigabeat sim you can use the --background option to rockboxui.exe for the player picture.  Maybe this is what you need to do see what you explained.

Yea, it's --background for all targets. Except it's obviously not a .exe in linux. Just in case, this is what I use "./rockboxui --background"

Thanks--that's what I was looking for (the graphic helps identify what keys to use, and is nice eye-candy!).

A question:  right now I have a shortcut on my Windows Desktop to bring up the simulator (it activates the rockboxui.exe file in the sim folder, and I have the needed SDL.dll file in my sim directory)--is there any way that I can add the switch to the shortcut (or to the roickboxui.exe file in my sim folder) for ease of use?  It's been awhile since I've used switches and there used to be--I can't find it now.  I've accomplished this for now by creating a small batch file that runs rockboxui.exe with the background switch set, and then shortcutting to that batch file via my Desktop, but don't know if there's a simpler way (altho this method seems to work fine).

Also--is there a list of the other switches that could be set in running rockboxui.exe?  I wasn't sure how to call them up.  E.g. to run the image without the underlying code window.  (I don't know if I would do this, but am curious as to other possible switches.)

Thanks--and cool!

The batch file and link on the desktop is the process I've used since I started using  the sim.  I now patch and compile my own sim, but still just link to a quick batch file on the desktop.

I'm pretty sure you need to add the switch after the path and file in the "Target" box of the icon's properties. Add " --background" (no quotation marks) between the end of the filename and the last quotation marks.

Mad Cow--  Thanks, you were absolutely right and that does the trick, without the need for a batch file:  just add " --background" (without quotes) after the path listing in the target box.  Great!

Another switch possibility:  --zoom (answering my question above)

Renders the player displays (without background images) in a large mode, potentially helpful in checking out the appearance of text and images.
