Disk Full...no it isn't!!! iHP-120 help needed
« on: April 13, 2007, 02:27:33 PM »
Hi,

It appears that my disk is full, but it isn't really. I have booted my unit and scanned the disk so that Rockbox reports the actual free space again - currently 200mb.

Any ideas why then it tells me that the disk is full when i attempt to record?

The original iriver firmware also shows disk full when I switch to that.

Can anyone help me?

Could be an hardwareproblem. Perhasps you can test it out by connecting to an PC and scan for broken clusters and so on. Because you sad it's with RB and the OF.

You should try running chkdsk /f from windows. Maybe the filesystem has some trouble ...

I thought there was a certain amount of free space required to start recording but I can't find it in the code at the moment (no time). 200MB certainly isn't much free space, and chances are the disk is so fragmented that saving to disk will take longer than the flush watermark...

I had a similar problem with my ipod nano: I used to hp-format tool to format it, reinstalled rockbox and I never had this problem again.

It could be some other _error_ (not warnings which blink on the top line) since the recording screen really doesn't distinguish errors and unfortunately puts them all up as disk full. Any problem at all creating a file or filename, starting an encoder, etc. would still show up as such.

Read this thread. http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=3753.0

Note that there is an way to prevent this in the future I did it but can't remember how as it's been over a year since I had the problem myself.

In any case I really think recording should indicate less common errors in some way other than always "disk full" which would at least rule out a lot of mystery when something happens. I really just haven't gotten around to doing it. As well I think error values should have systemwide meaning, common or not.
