Gigabeat X series: Problem When "backlight" is off
« on: April 13, 2007, 03:34:25 AM »
My apologies if the topic title isn't quite right, as I'm having trouble finding a suitable title.

But the issue that I have is that since the F and X series are the same build, I assume the OLED screen on the X series is coded to operate the same as way LCDs. In that case, whenever the "backlight" turns off, it'll mean the display is completely turned off, therefore I can't see anything. Is there anyway that can leave the display on dim so that I don't have to explicitly push a button just to read what's on the screen?

Perhaps I should submit a feature request if it is more appropriate.

On the other hand, I suppose the F and X builds will split in the future so the problem will be addressed?

Thanks in advance

You can't actually effectively read the LCD screen on the F series either, when it's off.

Do you really want to constantly drain power just so you don't have to tap a button every now and then to read the screen?

Well, coming from H120 I'm probably expecting too much from these colour screens. In that case, I just need to get used to it.

I guess nothing beats the good old grayscale LCD screens...

Thanks

You can just *barely* see something on the Gigabeat F when the backlight is out, and in most cases it can't be considered "readable."

Try enabling the "First keypress enables backlight" option so that your first press doesn't do anything.

As well, consider making the hold switch disable the backlight, that way you can turn it off easily and quickly if you're concerned about the normal timeout taking too long when you just want to check the screen briefly.

Thanks for your advice, I've known the caption and first key press option already. But I might try the hold button option.

Cheers
