Gigabeat button lights
« on: April 12, 2007, 09:50:30 PM »
For some reason the side buttons on my gigabeat that normally light up blue when pressed now don't light up. Their functionality is fine, but i'm wondering if a recent rockbox update caused this.

There's a setting for the use of button lights in the debug menu, but it's still really buggy. I would just wait until the code becomes more usable.

There was a checkin 11 Apr 05:30 that made some Gigabeat changes, followed by this checkin: 12 Apr 07:21 "Fix the backlight and led bugs from my last commit"

So if you grabbed between those two commits, that may be your problem.

I never noticed that, I  was using an older build at the time, and just installed the latest one yesterday,I was wondering why the backlight never turned off when I messed with the button LED settings. :P

Fixes what? There are currently no bugs in the button LED handling.

Button lights seem to function as expected but do not retain settings between turn on/turn off cycles .... correct?

(Turn off/turn on means via power button not battery on/off switch.)

Yes, but that's only because the option is in the debug menu, which doesn't save settings between power cycles.

The button lights still occasionally seem to conflict with the LCD backlight, so it's not ready to be moved out of debug yet, in my opinion.

Understood .... offering my help since I do have a gigabeat, f60. Can't program but can test. Also, $upported the project. Appreciate the efforts all the folks are making.

Does anybody have an idea as to why? I've noticed that the backlight turns off much less often now, it's around once in every 10 times, before it was almost every time.

Gigabeat Rockbox Build r1323-070421 with 20070421 FWIMG01.DAT

Button Light Modes: any selection other than default cause backlight to extinguish.

Is there a better place to report these things? I ask because this issue is hardware specific and I do not know if the flyspray bug tracker system is designated to include hardware-specific issues.

Thanks

The button lights are in the "Debug" menu, which says you're not supposed to enter it.

They're not expected to work right yet, that's exactly the conflict with the LCD that I was talking about. You're basically not supposed to report bugs on things that aren't done.  They aren't finished, so they aren't "working", and often enough the problems are just that it's not finished yet.

And yes, the Flyspray system is set up to accept hardware specific bugs, when they're actually supposed to be reported.

I understand that they are NOT SUPPOSED to work. But I would like to offer helpful reports on this issue. Maybe simply saying that this function does not work on a specific build is not helpful to developers and I can understand that.

If it is most appropriate that I do not enter reports, I can continue to evaluate the function but not continue to waste bandwidth entering the results of those tests.

Thank you for your response.
