Applying partition table - how?
« on: April 12, 2007, 12:37:09 PM »
I have an 30g Ipod 5.5g. I need elementary help.

I'm at the point where I must "apply the correct partition table" (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodConversionToFAT32). I have the iPod unmounted and I've downloaded both the 2048 and 512 sector tables.

1. I don't know which I'm to use: the 2048 or 512 sector partition table. There's no info on which applies to my model of iPod.
2. Once it's downloaded, what's next? I've double-clicked on both commands, but I get a dialog that it doesn't know where to apply the command. (It seems to want some word processor or such.)

Thanks for the beginner's help! ???

NOTE: If you have the 30GB video ipod, you need to determine your sector size. This can be done with the ipodpatcher command

I don't know what you are trying to double-click, there is only a command stated -- how should one be able double-clicking it?

Run the below command to write the partition table to your iPod:
This means you need to run the command from a terminal window.

The help is greatly appreciated, but...

Using Disk Utility, I've downloaded ipodpatcher. It appears, as the Rockbox Manual says. When I double-click, I end up with these in my Disk Utility window:
- ipodpatcher.dmg
- ipodpatcher-0.9 (indented underneath) \.

Unfortunately, I am inexpert at Terminal, and the Manual doesn't mention Termnal.

The Manual says When I double-click the files, I should see information about the player and how I want it to be installed. There's no additional information in my display. Either, if double clicked, doesn't yield anything.

Help, plese!

What do you mean you've downloaded ipodpatcher using disk utility?

The manual conversion method does require a small amount of knowledge of the terminal - it's not a straightforward process.

Maybe an easier option for you would be to find a Windows PC with itunes installed on it and simply restore your ipod using that.  It should be as simple as plugging your ipod into the PC and saying "yes" when itunes offers to reformat it for you.
