Disk Poweroff
« on: April 12, 2007, 04:48:34 AM »
I have recently updated my Rockbox from a January build and when going through re-instating all my settings I found that Disk poweroff seems to be missing. I consulted the manual and found no trace of it there!

Is this feature now integrated within the code and as such no longer needs to be enabled? If it has been removed just out of interest why? I thought this feature helped make your battery stretch that bit further?

Hope this was the right place to ask this question.

It was permanently enabled, I believe.

Yes it is now permanently enabled, it was felt that the option was unnecessary as almost all users would turn it on if they know it existed.
IIRC you are the first person to mention that it is now missing :-)

Indicating somewhat clearly not too many people paid attention to it, but should've. ;)

I noticed it because I always turned it off last year, but I figured that it was now permanently enabled, as the drive shut off after filling the buffer.

So does this impact recording in any manner i.e. does it take longer for actual recording to begin as a result?

The hardisk takes a little longer to spin up, maybe about .5 seconds depending on the disk. Recording does not have to spin up the disk to start so it shouldn't impact it at all.
