FWIW, I noticed just before installing the latest version to my iriver h140 that certain major changes required "updated bootloader" (according to the major-change log); i set out to do so if i needed to, and
A) had no way of knowing what version i had, and
B) could find no info on how one would do such a thing.
it turns out that i didn't need to anyway, but if I am left in the dark about this when i simply haven't updated in a few while, what does it mean for other users who haven't even done stuff as involved as writing code? :P
Llorean:
A) The H120 bootloader tells you its version when you boot.
B) See the Manual for "Installing the Bootloader"

judging solely based on the manual, and where it links to, is it possible to tell the version of the bootloader it's directing you to install? I'm there now and if so, it's certainly eluding me (if it's possible at all). All I can see is the timestamp on the file, which certainly implies it's not been updated lately, but still doesn't instill me with the utmost confidence. thus when i saw a vague note in the changelog about some feature requiring the latest bootloader, for example, I was left to wonder for a while.
Llorean:
The latest bootloader for the H120 is well over a year old.
