The imod is a serious piece of work. I was convinced after listening it it compared to my stock ipod. Was quite skeptical too. But of course, it's as good as the weakest link, so you'd need to have good earphones and a good headphone amp to drive it. :) comparing the headphone out with the line out with the same set of headphone amp and earphones, the sound is definitely much different in terms of clarity and richness.
i'd think hard before spending the $$$ myself though as it'd force me to get a headphone amp ;p
