iPod Video Rockbox boot screen
« on: April 06, 2007, 04:14:01 PM »
Hey guys,

I wanted to ask, how would I go about changing Rockbox's bootscreen image from the yellow Rockbox logo on the top over the white background, to, say, the logo shown on Julius' blog (http://pijulius.blogspot.com/2006/05/custom-rockbox-boot-logo-for-ipod.html)

I've read through a few of the threads here, but I'm an amateur at programming, so I don't understand everything.

I've stumbled upon this: http://www.misticriver.net/showthread.php?t=52672

Which links to a program that can auto edit the rockbox.ipod file for you in order to change the boot logo. The problem is that I can't find the yellow Rockbox logo to overwrite (it looks for that).

Can anyone help me out, or wouldn't mind if I send the current rockbox.ipod file I'm using and re-compile it for me with the boot logo of choice?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

As you can read on Julius' page you need a patched build for using the fullscreen logo -- a usual official build won't have a fullscreen logo and of course the logo swapper won't find it.

So, either use an unsupported build or build Rockbox yourself.

I've read the wiki about doing your own Rockbox build, the problem is, I can't do that. Like I said above, I'm an amateur at programming and have very limited experience. If anyone would like to help edit my current rockbox.ipod file to run the boot screen, please help.

The thing is, the current build that I'm using is apparently the best one I've used. The Senab build has a few issues, while the daily builds are similar to what I'm using

You cannot edit rockbox.blahblah, that is the point.  You need to edit the source code then compile to generate a new rockbox.blahblah

Well... Its out of my capabilities to do that...

Just so I don't have to start another thread, I'll ask it here:

Are there any plans to have a sleep-mode for Rockbox like the one on Apple's OS? I was thinking because a few people I know use the Apple OS once in a while, but use the Rockbox firmware more frequently and don't want to go through the hassle of rebooting the iPod just to get back to it.

How would a sleep mode in Rockbox prevent you from having to reboot the Apple OS to get back to Rockbox?

I mean, you know when you're done listening to your iPod (in Apple OS) and you press+hold the Play/Pause button for it to 'sleep'? Then when you either turn hold off or press a button it 'wakes up'? I wanted that capability.

For RB, when you do the Play/Pause button procedure, you shut-down your iPod. Then when you press a button to 'awaken' it, it boots up your iPod from a complete shutdown.

I'll admit that would be a very, very nice feature, but the main developers won't implement it because AFAIK, they only focus on features that all devices can benefit from, but if someone were to create a patch, then with enough luck, it might be commited to the SVN.

In order to implement said feature, the project would need a lot more knowledge about the portalplayer chips that we just don't have. Short of some serious unforseen magic miracles, Rockbox on ipod is never going to be as good as the apple firmware with power management. They just can't do it. It has nothing to do with not wanting to spend the time on it.
