Sansa e200: Chip clock speed?
« on: April 05, 2007, 04:04:41 PM »
I have a Sansa e250. I believe it uses the Portal Player PP5024 chip set. According to the portal player website this chip is cable of being clocked up to 100 MHz. When I look at the debug screen for the audio thread it says that the clock speed is 75 MHz. Does anyone know if the clock speed is being set in hardware or if there is something in the rock box software that is setting the clock speed? Does anyone know if it is the case that Sandisk designed the hardware to operate at only 75 MHz?

All the PP devices are set to 75MHz maximum clock to conserve power.  There was a patch in on flyspray for the Ipod 4G that had a long discussion about this, and code to change the clock.  If you're interested, you can dig up that code, make the changes yourself, and use that.  However there is no support for changing the core clock speed from 75MHz among developers.

I am sure you RockBox guys already know this but just in case you did not know, the PP5024 chip is designed by Nvidia!!!

They even have the Sandisk Sensa the bottom of their handheld devices page

In stating the above Rockbox will in the future be able to take advantage of all of the features listed on this page correct?

No it was designed by Portal Player, who Nvidia bought after the release of the PP5024.

Some of them.  Rockbox is never going to support PlaysForSure.  It might support USB or WMA someday, if someone figures out how to implement them.

there is a cpu scaling patch in the tracker for the sansa, but its a waste of time atm because the boost during playback is something like 75% (from memory last time i used it)

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
