Switching between Apple firmware & Rockbox

(1/1)

aesopian:
Just wondering, is there a way of choosing the 'Operating System' you want to use?
eg. I sometimes want the movie playing capabilities of the Apple Firmware, or other times the extra plugins of Rockbox.
Please help

ColdSphinx:
Simply press the hold key on boot.

--- Quote ---Rockbox has a dual-boot feature. To boot into the original firmware, shut down the device as described above. Turn on the hold switch immediately after turning the player on. Once Rockbox displays the message "Loading original firmware" you may turn the hold switch off. Rockbox will boot into the original firmware.

Note: The described method of dual-booting works with Rockbox bootloader version 2, which was released 16 December 2006. If you have the older bootloader, boot the original firmware by pressing Menu immediately after turning on your Ipod. Do not release the Menu button until you see the "Loading original firmware..." message on the screen.

I've never heard of hold, I'll have to try that sometime... anyway you can reboot the ipod pressing menu+select and right as it shuts down just press menu again. It make take a bit to get the timing down, but it will say "Booting original firmware"

Did you happen to read the quote from the manual in the post immediate above yours?
