FM Modulators

I recently was allocated a vehicle from my employer and was distraught to find that there was no AUX in for my trusty brick (Original Archos JBR with 120GB - yes, some of us are still using these museum pieces!).  Of course, modifying the vehicle was out of the question, so I went down the list of options available to me.  The existing unit has a 6 CD stacker, so tapping into that wasn't an option.  There was no cassette deck, so a cassette adaptor was out as well.

I then looked at FM transmitters - I have previously used a Tunecast 2 and 3 and found their performance to be very average, almost to the point of frustration at times.

I ended up choosing an inline FM Modulator (http://www.nesavision.com/nfm8.html).  Although I'm aware of the limitations of FM, this unit has ease of use on it's side.  It took me (a car electronics Luddite) about 10 minutes to install.  When it receives an input audio signal, it "shuts down" the frequency that you previously select via DIP switch.  You can select other FM stations if you wish - they just pass through unhampered.

I see questions on quite a few forums about in-car options, so thought you would like to know about my experience with this unit.

I still use a "standard" FM transmitter: the quality isn't very good, but in the car there's so much noise that it doesn't really matter anyway...

I did a home-made inline FM wire to plug into the FM-Out on my Sirius unit (it has FM built in, but is normally not used with a straight-thru wire or anything).  it does rather well.
Another option to consider, if you have an FM modulator but no way of going in-line to your antenna wire, is simply removing your car's aerial.  Obviously that's a dramatic step, but it worked for my brother, who also only listens to radio via Sirius.
