updated mpegplayer

(1/3) > >>

aznofazns:
the first time i installed rockbox was early January and the mpegplayer's performance was pretty good. it was fast and A/V sync was good. but i just updated rockbox and now the mpegplayer is extremely laggy. the fps still says 25ish but it freezes every second, and A/V sync is off. why is this?

Llorean:
Can you provide a sample file that shows the bad A/V sync?

aznofazns:
the file with the bad sync and framerate is too large, but i think i've found the problem. i converted an avi to an mpeg and it tore the original 1 gig file into 4 separate files 650 megs each at high quality and 320x240 res. maybe the gigabeat's cpu can't handle such a large, high quality file? all my other, smaller mpegs still have good framerate and sync.

Mad Cow:
There should be no problem, I have a ~650 mb. file at perfect quality and it plays fine.

Llorean:
I played a 1.3 gb file at 320x176 (1150kbps) without any syncing problems at all.

Trim the first five minutes of one of those, and see if that's in sync, but basically speaking, Filesize is not a problem. Bitrate might be a problem, but you'd need to get significantly higher than 1150kbps before frameskipping can't keep up the Sync (the 1150 didn't do frameskipping except during disk spinups) and most of my 320x240 files at decent resolutions don't either.

So please, try to cut the file and create a sample that demonstrates the problem, or better yet, try the cut version on your PC. If your program insists on cutting the file without asking you, it's very possible that it's introducing the syncing errors because the audio is often not in the same place as the video at a certain point in the file.
