iHP-120 problem
« on: March 31, 2007, 05:10:15 PM »
I've been charging my iHP-120 with an upgraded battery and a Gomadic tip in my car and on my computer for quite a while. About a week ago, it started to act like it was losing all its charge within an hour or two when turned off (not sure if that's what was really happening though). I chalked it up as a bad nightly and applied another one a few days later, but now it's not looking good at all.

It will only boot with power supplied via a charger, and unplugging the charger promptly shuts it down. The boot screen shows a seemingly random power value during boot, anywhere from 3.1 to 4.2. It doesn't seem to be able to return to iRiver firmware either.

Is this player bricked?

thanks,

Bad battery maybe, since it doesn't seem to hold a charge?  Is there a way you can try operations with a different battery?

I'm not sure that Rockbox does anything with charging, hardware wise.  You may have somewhat inadequate readings on battery meters in a WPS, or the battery may drain quickly because the LCD won't shut off or there's some leak somewhere.  It shouldn't have anything to do with acutally charging the battery (hardware.)

Not much help, sorry.

Yup, it was a battery -- I just finished swapping my original battery back in, and it's working. The replacement had some lose fittings in the clip, and the wires were getting pinched.

Thanks!
