Cannot get Album Art on Rockbox Ipod Video
bluesbeat:
Is it ever likely that Rockbox will support jpg album art in the official build?
ie if the jpg is embedded in the file. Seems logical to me, but I don't know the complexities involved.
thanks.

Hey bluesbeat,
I don't think rockbox will support embedded jpegs, however there is work being done to allow for embedded bitmaps (has to do with metadata on buffer).
Anyway jpegs probably wont be supported for 2 reasons:
1.they're compressed meaning that the CPU will need to uncompress them meaning that takes
precious power away from other important things like decoding audio which is essential while
album art especially compressed album art is not an essential feature
2.while jpegs do save space, our players all have large capacity when we're talking about pictures. A 100x100 bitmap is maybe 200K (some are 10K) so using jpegs is not that big of a deal.
Yotto:

1) You are not allowed to ask for help in the forums. This is the biggest reason, and why I suggested you stay away from them for now. If, every time you want to ask why something didn't work the way you expected it or you're having trouble finding something in the manual, you ask a question and Llorean asks "What build are you using" you're going to either get that embarrassed feeling up the back of your neck or get quickly sick of loading and reloading builds all the time. You may ask "Well, I have to load the newest build anyway to report it, so what's the big deal?" and the big deal is that the new build you're doing isn't just an improved version of what you were on, it's a totally different thing with different button responses, ways to display data, backlight functions, you name it. Trust me, it causes problems :)
2) The unofficial builds don't match the manual. Your build may not do what you expect when you hit a button that the manual says takes you to, say, the Menu.
3) The unofficial builds are older than the current build. Unless an unofficial build has been released THAT DAY, it's old.
All that said, there's nothing *wrong* with using an unofficial build. I personally load whichever of EvilG's or Senab's builds is the newest, because I have grown very accustomed to album art and a less-bright screen. But if I find a bug, I load the newest version before I report anything. And it's a pain :)
Scott123:
:o Ok, what if I do choose to load an unofficial build and it is a build that can support album art.  How do I get the album art working?  I have just downloaded the build that comes with the jClix themes that support album art. :-\

Hey Scott123,
you can't ask about unsupported builds in the forums, unless you ask about it in the specific thread for that build in the unsupported builds section (i.e. all questions about the jbuild go under the jbuild thread under the unsupported builds forum) The only problem is that you will find less help doing this. It is not a problem really because there is enough documentation in the wiki / provided by the authors of these builds.
to get Album Art working try reading this page on album art in the wiki.
the jbuild includes the BMP resize patch so you can use any size AA you want.
