ipod battery life time
rheinman:
I would like rockbox. It works almost well on my 5.5G but I don't use it. I have I a HD-Player for easy using not to change disks or tapes and not to decide what to hear every mornig. But short battery-lifetime leads into trouble, if I went home from a busy day and the energy is empty. No thanks.
Isn't there a developer who thinks like me. I dont't need COP or any other stuff which is currently not running in the actual development state, at least not as much than longer playtime.
For me rockbox currently has the featurs running I need. The next step should be to enhance playtime. 4-5 houres of may playtime is not acceptable for me, for a device like an Ipod.
Actually I use the orignal firmway, because of the significant long playtime which more than double of the rockbox playtime.
GodEater:
Unless you have some documentation or knowledge or the PortalPlayer design that will help us improve battery life on the iPod - then just asking for someone to "improve it" isn't going to change anything. The battery life on all our PortalPlayer targets is bad because we don't know HOW to improve - not because we don't WANT to.
Llorean:
Tell us how. If you know exactly which hardware is draining power when it shouldn't be, we would love to know.
I find it very offensive that you seem to think we don't care about the poor battery life. The COP patch was hoped to help battery life by reducing the time the processor had to run at full speed, as well as improving performance. Codecs are optimized often to improve battery life.
But there's something MAJOR and it's not a case of simply wanting to solve it.
Please, use some common sense. Why would we not want comparable battery life when it is the most common complaint about Rockbox, and we frequently explain on these boards why it's something very difficult to fix?
Toni:
I did some current measurements for the Sansa.
Deactivating:
- the lcd-device (when backlight off)
- the ata-controller (if no read/write in progress)
Simply setting/resetting the correspondent bits in the DEV_EN register did the job.
I could reduce the current from 55mA to 41mA during mp3 playback.
The cpu frequency affects by ~1mA/4MHz.
Sleeping both cop and cpu seems to have no effect.
I don't know, wether these values can be simply applied to the ipods.
rheinman:
Hi everyone,
it's not my intend to crumble, sorry. English isn't my native language. I just wondered, that rockbox seems to be installed on so many ipods. And if you tell me, that it is almost impossible to fix the issue about battery-lifetime, than imho it is not right to say rockbox it is running on ipods probably, which I assumed. I would say it's an rockbox-demo for ipods.
Sorry for still crumling but dear Llorean I'm not blessed with a langluage spoken all over the world ;)
So long
