Easy Mpeg encoder
« on: March 30, 2007, 02:08:56 AM »
Hello, I wanted to share this program that allows for easy mpeg encoding that works with rockbox, you just need to change a couple of settings plus its open source (you can call it free if you want):
Project: http://sourceforge.net/projects/mediacoder/
Download: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/mediacoder/MediaCoder-0.6.0-pre1a.exe?modtime=1173891883&big_mirror=0

I thought that it was fitting: Open Source encoder for Rockbox that is easy to use.

I downloaded this  encoder and it installed ok but when I try and run it it comes up with an error message, "....failed to initialize..."

Any ideas? I'm using winxp pro

WinFF on our PluginMpegplayer page is pretty darn easy to use too. And we've made available presets for each of the available color players (though feedback on those presets is good, I guessed for the bitrate on a lot of players since I couldn't test myself).

step 1) download and save presets from: HERE
step 2) open MediaCoder and press File -> Load Preset
step 3) open the file downloaded in step 1
step 4) set screen size by doing the following:

If you want to post tutorials, please do it in the wiki, and do it neatly, don't post oversized images into our forums.

It is possible, maybe even easy to write an extension for rockbox mpeg video.
as a demo:
http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/extbuild/

should result in something like:
http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/device.htm?sid=5

That file is:
\MediaCoder\extensions\Archos.7z

I would suggest to increase the bitrate to 500-600 for 320x240 videos.

Exactly what I reported near the top of the topic, but no one has commented.

In the meantime I'll use WinFF as it works first up!

First off sorry about the oversized images (I didn't think they would be that big). I am unsure about the bugs (I can't code, yet) but it is still in the pre-release phase (version 0.6.0-pre9). Also I forgot about the wiki and posting in it (sorry). Well, I must be off to another wonderful adventure (downloading openoffice.org 2.2 and do my 6 page history report) so long.

I've put together a MediaCoder extension for Rockbox, Check it out in the Wikihttp://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/PluginMpegplayer#UsingMediaCoder_to_encode_on_Win

Feedback on presets and overall impression is very welcome.

Looks like a Windows-only application.

But I guess I'll try it with wine. Can it batch-convert all my high-bitrate audio files to low bitrates but preserve the metadata? I'm currently looking for a program capable of doing that. ;)

EDIT: Argh, it won't work with wine. When I try to run it I just get a nice message box labeled "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" which tells me "R6034 An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly."

The MediaCoder extension has been updated and now has two aspect ratio options, 4:3 and 16:9

Maybe I'm missing something, but does this extension just not work?

I tried it out by dropping in a 704x396 900kbps xvid AVI and following the steps on the wiki exactly - going into extensions menu, selecting my player, 16:9, setting bitrate (500) and then clicking start. I end up with an output file that is a 704x396 500kbps xvid AVI file which is unplayable on the sansa.

I already use WinFF, but I was just curious about this program.
