What is a "compy"?

Edit; Oh silly me... You meant your computer.

zombieplasticclock:
heh, yeah. so... Can anyone help me out?

by the way- sorry about using words like "compy" and others your not used to. That last post was  made in a hurry, so I shortened words a bit. I'll try not to do that again. Now, my ipod hasn't been reformated yet, I'm waiting for a verdict from you guys.

To repeat my question: I need to reset my ipod so it'll read on my computer, cause it randomly became "unfamiliar" all of a sudden. I fixed the music and videos being jumbled up, but it won't go up on itunes or my computer anymore. Also, the backup boot partition I made in the installation of Rockbox was lost in a crash. Is it safe to reformat (IE wipe clean) my ipod in this condition?

If you mean safe as in "the ipod will be restored to an ordinary empty apple ipod - like when bought from a store" yes, it's safe.
If you mean safe as in "the ipod will keep all movies and music and rockbox and everything i stored on it" then no it won't.

After your ipod is restored/reformatted, i guess; itunes does it's magic with it, you'll have to start all over again with rockbox, your music and files.

Febs:
I don't see how reformatting is going to address your problem.

If your computer is not recognizing your iPod, put the iPod into disk mode before connecting it.
