lossless etc....

Hi all,

I am using the Rockbox firmware on an iHP-140 (60gb drive installed).. and it will play .flac, .ape, and wma lossless when connected to a PC (usb mode) using winamp, but some of these will not play when the device is disconnected.

I'll see something along the lines of:

?Bit

when using the lossless wma files, or the 'play' function won't engage at all on the .ape files.

Any help, or replies of 'noob' is appreciated. :)

This isn't an "Installation" question. Please read the guidelines and attempt to post in the proper forums.

When you play a file on your PC from the player, it's just seeing the player as a hard disk, it has nothing to do with what the player can play. Rockbox does not support WMA of any sort, or APE, so there's no reason to expect them to play in Rockbox.

Playing on the PC has nothing to do with Rockbox -- the player is simply an external hard disk and it completely doesn't matter what you do with it. You could even install games on it and  play them on your PC (though this wouldn't be a good idea because of various factors).

Rockbox doesn't support the same file types winamp does, and unsupported files unsurprisingly won't play. Read the manual and the wiki for more details about supported file types.

???
You've dismantled your DAP to install a new HDD, and yet you call yourself a 'noob' and indeed don't actually understand how HDDs work when connected to your PC! That's one of the oddest scenarios I've seen on these forums

Anyone can follow directions.  ;)
